Week 3 Story: e-blast #143
Spotted... our beloved M being transformed into a tree. It seems even death wasn't punishment enough for her sins.
Rumor has it that Myrrah had a thing for Cinyras himself... yes Gossips, that is her father. I'm not one to kiss and tell, but thanks to Orpheus, we can finally see the true character of our It Girl.
Apparently, she has been struggling with this obsession for a long time. We must applaud her for her efforts of holding back for so long. However, we all know that our deepest secrets are never truly safe.
This intense love started growing faith after a long line of suitors wasn't enough for her. She confessed to daddy dearest that she was looking for someone just like him... how touching.
This detestable sin caused Myrrah great turmoil, for her loving caregiver found her attempting to join Hades and Persephone in their kingdom underground. Her noble acts saved Myrrah and in her attempts to console her, she discovered the dirty truth. It seems a little threat can go a long way...
This dastardly duo would soon wreak havoc on poor Mr. C while his wife swore to celibacy for the celebration of Ceres. The caregiver, acting as the best wing-man Paphos has ever seen, coaxed Mr. C to share the same bed as his daughter. One wonders more how Myrrah could have completed this act as she received many warnings from the Gods before the encounter. Countless trips and bumps in the dark hallways, scary owl calls, and turbulent inner conflict weren't enough to overpower that four little word: love.
The many sultry nights that followed produced a growing curiosity in Mr. C, so he finally decided to turn on the lights. Once he discovered the sin his daughter tricked him into, he drew his sword and pursued her... can you say rejected?
Our little sinner, with bun in the oven, escaped death and fled for many days. With exhaustion and regret setting in.. she plead out to the Gods who tried to warn her. They granted her wishes and denied her both life and death.
I'd be careful of the myrrh you use...

*Authors Note: This story is a combination of two of the stories about Myrrah (Myrrah and the Nurse and Myrrah's Punishment) The plot of both stories is the same, I just framed it as a Gossip Girl blast. I thought this would be a fun perspective to tell the story from as it is about incest, a great immoral act. With immoral acts comes gossip and judgement, so it was an easy connection to this perspective. I glossed over the details of Myrrah's attempted suicide as this is a sensitive and serious subject and I did not want to be insensitive. This is a dramatic and sad part of the original story, but I couldn't appropriately fit it into my version. This story has a more modern feel than the originals however, I tried to keep some of the original aspects by incorporating authentic names and places. The last line speaks to the belief that the myrrh produced from myrrh trees are the tears that Myrrah cries, hence the similarity in name.
Bibliography: Myrrah and the Nurse and Myrrah's Punishment, originally by Ovid, translated into English by Tony Kline.

Hey Ashlynn! Just saw your comment on my story about Io and wanted to thank you for stopping by! I'm glad you liked the story. As a long-time fan of Gossip Girl (it's been a guilty pleasure forever), I both appreciated the premise of this story and the format. You really matched Gossip Girl 's (somehow Dan, which I refuse to believe to this day) tone, but still communicated the original story well. So much fun to read! Great job!

Hi Ashlynn! The theme of the blog post fit in perfect with the story, as you said, since if something like this happened in real life you would be sure that people would gossip about it. Are you a big Gossip Girl fan in real life? I've seen a couple episodes but was never able to really get into it, but I've heard it's really good.
